Lawn Care Tips: Voles

August 14, 2012 by chanshareadmin 1 Comment

Lawn Care Tips: How to control voles.

1. Place egg shells in the entrance to their hole. They don’t like the feeling on their belly and will vacate.
2. DCON will kill them as well as mice. But please be careful with this as the poison will also affect children and pets.
3. Mix up a solution of 1 pint of Castor Oil with 1 gallon of water and spread it over 2500 square feet. This should repel them for 4-6 weeks.
4. Pour human urine in their entrance. They don’t like the smell and should vacate.
5. Whack-A-Vole. One of my neighbors floods their hole with hose water and then whacks them with a shovel when they pop out of their hole.

Burnt Sod

July 10, 2012 by chanshareadmin Leave a Comment

When you are installing sod in the heat of the day, any temperature above 85 degrees fahrenheit, you must be careful of both your soil temperature and your turf temperature. In order to prevent burning the roots and minimize burning the sod we recommend that you give your soil a good watering before installing turf and that you water the turf as soon as you install it. Do not wait until the installation is complete to water it. Start watering as soon as you complete your first section and continue watering throughout installation. If you do this you will be less likely to have to deal with turf that dies shortly after installation due to burnt roots and blades.
