Tahoma 31 bermudagrass has proven to be DROUGHT TOLERANT (requiring 50% less water than Bluegrass), COLD TOLERANT (has survived the cold winter weather in Denver with minimal die back), and is extremely WEAR TOLERANT (installed on many sports fields and golf courses)!
Tahoma 31 is the cream of the crop! In sod trials performed by the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) Tahoma 31 Bermudagrass ranked #1 over other types of Bermudagrass like Latitude 36, Tifway, Celebration and others.
Tahoma 31 Bermudagrass requires up to 50% less water than Bluegrass and thrives in the summer heat. BYU proved it took 3-6 weeks without watering before Tahoma 31 Bermudagrass SHOWED DROUGHT STRESS! Conversely, adjacent bluegrass plots started going dormant within a couple days and died off by the end of 6 weeks.
Bermudagrass is a warm season grass so it greens up 3-5 weeks slower that bluegrass in the spring. However, it thrives in the summer heat so, hot Utah summers are ideal. And Bermudagrass requires more consistent fertilization but less nitrogen overall, compared to bluegrass.
