August Lawn Care Tips
1. Keep watering 1″ every 6-7 days while temperatures remain high. When daily highs go below 85 degrees cut back to 1″ every 7-10 days.
2. Watch for weeds and hand weed as much as possible.
3. If you decide to brown out your lawn make sure to resume your regular watering within 4 weeks.
4. Wait for cooler temperatures to fertilize again.
Burnt Sod
When you are installing sod in the heat of the day, any temperature above 85 degrees fahrenheit, you must be careful of both your soil temperature and your turf temperature. In order to prevent burning the roots and minimize burning the sod we recommend that you give your soil a good watering before installing turf and that you water the turf as soon as you install it. Do not wait until the installation is complete to water it. Start watering as soon as you complete your first section and continue watering throughout installation. If you do this you will be less likely to have to deal with turf that dies shortly after installation due to burnt roots and blades.

Watergrass and Foreign Grass Weed Control
In this video Randy discusses how to deal with Watergrass.
Key Points:
1. Watergrass usually shows up in newly planted sod when the temperature is above 85 degrees.
2. If you continue your regular maintenance program the first frost will kill off the watergrass.
3. Crabgrass controlling herbicides with the chemical Quinclorac are effective on Watergrass.
4. Spot treating the areas that have watergrass is recommended.
