With all the rain we’ve recently gotten, does your lawn need water? The best way to decide is to take a long screwdriver and push it into a few different spots in your yard. Does it slide into the ground easily? If it does then the soil is moist enough and does not need watering right now. It can wait for a few days. If the screwdriver won’t go into the ground easily, now is the time to water.
So the next question is how much to water. We recommend 1 1/2 inch every 7-10 days for established lawns. Handy tip: an empty tuna fish can is about 1 in tall. Place the empty can in a non-overlapping sprinkler area and time how long it takes to fill. This would tell you how long you need to let your sprinklers run to get 1 1/2 in on your lawn.
Enjoy the beautiful sunshine but keep the Ark handy. This is Utah after all.
